Studies on F1 Hybrid Seed Production Using Male Sterility of Hot - Pepper

Abstract
Studies were made for F©û seed production using male sterile capsicum annum L. , and the results obtained were summarized as follows;
The different ratios of male sterile and pollen rows (2:1, 3:1, 4:1), and plot treatments (field, screenhouse and artificial wind-screenhouse trials) did not show considerable difference among them on number of flowering and fruits setting. Number of fruits harvested per plant was most with field trial, next with screenhouse and least with artificial wind-screenhouse trial. Sterile fruits having no seeds, however, was most with screenhouse trial, next with artificial wind-screenhouse and least with field trial, yet 2 : 1 plots of each treatment were least for all sex-expression ratios examined.
Number of seeds produced Fer plant was most with field trial and next with screenhouse trials while screenhouse alone and artificial wind-screenhouse trials did not give significant difference in the number each other.
The 2 : 1 plots for both field and screenhouse trials produced the moss number of seeds per plant, and the 3 : 1 and 4 : 1 plots were next with little difference. All ratio plots examined for the artificial wind-screenhouse trial showed no difference among them.
Qualitywise, F©û seeds seemed to shove no great difference in production as compared with those of non hybrid seeds originally used for all treatments and ratio tests with male sterile pepper plants. It is therefore seemed feasible to consider that slanting ratio of 2 : 1 is the most profitable way of producing F©û hybrid seeds in field.
